Film Update…

As you know, we just acquired the newly released Blackmagic 4K camera and are testing out it’s prowess on three shorts. Catharsis is in the AVID now waiting to be cut, and Watching is our next short to shoot. At this point, we have one last location to secure before we can move forward.

The One is the third short film we plan to shoot. However, our Damon got a lead role on a Netflix show, so we’ve put it on hold for now as we search for a new actor to fill in. I’ve also written a few shorts these past few days that are too good to shelve.

Sisters is about college cheerleader Dawn who is just perfect. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous, but she also has the hot jock boyfriend who is a baseball star. Her sister Elizabeth, on the other hand, is an adorable nerd who dates the evil genius constantly performing experiments on unsuspecting people. The sisters have a very competitive relationship where Elizabeth always seems to get the short end of the stick, but then she decides not to take it anymore.

Private Eye is about Cole Maddux and Julia Blackstone, both undercover private eyes with the hots for each other. Cole is an extremely protective alpha male type with a cocky attitude that gets him  in trouble with Julia. However, she can never stay mad at him since they’re one of a kind. Their relationship is like a roller coaster ride that goes off the tracks when she is betrayed by her partner who holds her hostage. Cole must play the hero and save the day.  Then, the unexpected happens which throws everything off balance when Cole realizes by playing the hero to Julia, he is missing out on being someone else’s hero.

The reason I like this short so much is because the characters are three-dimensional and really fleshed out. It’s twenty pages of dynamic drama with lots of action all happening in one location. It also sets us up for a series or a feature based on these characters and situations. The case they’re working on is mob related and way too big to be tied up neatly at the end. This short has a lot of potential. Brad read it and loved it too. He says we have to shoot this which is a wonderful sign. I’m glad he likes it as much as I do.

Brad also finished reading Lone Viking and gave me notes. It’s a funny, upbeat romantic comedy that leaves you feeling good and ready for more, which is great since the end sets us up for a sequel. I am in the process of rewriting the feature. I’ve also started contacting sponsors, searching for funds so we can make this happen. Lone Viking is perfect for sponsors because there are natural places for product placement. The film follows several models and includes scenes that, just based on the characters professions, must have products to advertise.

Mandy grew up with her best buddy Plato, who used to be the fat kid everyone made fun of…but not anymore. Now Plato is a gorgeous runway model that is so pretty even Mandy is smitten. When Mandy’s start-up is put in jeopardy by a greedy corporation, she makes a wish for a hero. It comes true in the form of a Viking from her romance novel, Rodmar Svan. Rodmar mistakes Mandy for Freyja, Odin’s wife and the Goddess of Sex. Mandy can’t help but fall for his charm as Rodmar was written to be  the most romantic hero of all time. Her instant attraction to Rodmar makes  Plato insanely jealous.  Plato realizes that he is absolutely head over heels in love with  Mandy and can’t stand the idea of her with another man. Then Rodmar escapes to the streets of Los Angeles. Together they must track down the confused Viking, and it all turns into a hilarious spectacle that saves Mandy’s business in a twist of fate. By the end, you fall in love with all the many characters that show up along the way–from Mandy’s mom Rachel to Mandy’s adorable nephew Benny, but especially for Mandy, Plato and the romantic Viking.
